About us

Who we are

We want every child to be a leader

Teach For Chad is a non-profit organization working to ensure that every child has a quality education that enables them to reach their full potential wherever they are. Our mission is to improve access to quality education for all through strong collective leadership, particularly for children in rural and vulnerable communities. We therefore train leaders capable of developing themselves, their communities and their country in a sustainable manner.

Teach For Chad's mission
Make every Child A leader

Contribute to providing quality education and life skills to children through young leaders engaged in teaching, but also by working with communities and all stakeholders around collective leadership for systemic and sustainable change.

Our values

At Teach For Chad, we believe in these values to transform the education system and the system in general

We believe in the extraordinary potential of all children, and in our collective potential to realize our aspirations. That's why we act with courage, boldness, urgency and perseverance in pursuit of transformational impact.

We need change agents who understand and integrate interculturality into their daily lives. Chad is a country where cultures differ from north to south, with a major impact on cohabitation. This cultural diversity is an opportunity if it is exploited wisely. However, it can also be a brake on change if the prejudices, beliefs, mentalities and stereotypes of the agents of change take precedence over the values and type of leadership advocated by Teach for Chad.

We are convinced that education must adapt to the needs and realities of today's world, integrating new technologies, new methods and new approaches; stimulating innovation, originality and diversity in pedagogical approaches, as well as the ability to solve problems in an adapted way.

We demonstrate courage at both personal and organizational levels. We dare to question our practices, showing initiative, creativity and confidence in ourselves and our ideas. In this way, we can set ourselves apart, renew ourselves and make progress towards a quality education system for all.

We strive for excellence in our work for ourselves and for our students. We do this by adhering to the standards and quality criteria we have defined. We regularly evaluate results, progress and difficulties, taking into account feedback from communities and partners. In this way, we challenge ourselves and strive for continuous improvement.

We seek to ensure the full participation of people from all cultures and backgrounds, and we believe that those who have themselves experienced the inequalities we seek to address should guide and direct this work.

Vision of scholarship holders/teachers

Teach For Chad fellows or teachers are recruited on the basis of specific skills identified for student training. By committing to a two-year mission, these teachers work to impart the following skills to their students: development mindset, cultural awareness, agility, solidarity, problem-solving and resilience. They are also committed to transforming communities through collective leadership.

  1. Managing yourself
As Fellows, they develop a deep understanding of their own potential and engage in a process of ongoing personal growth. They cultivate their cultural awareness to better understand and respect the diversity of their students and communities.
  2. Managing others
As teachers, they are models of solidarity and agility. They inspire their students to work together, help each other and find solutions to the challenges they face. They adopt innovative and flexible teaching approaches, able to adapt to the varied needs of their students and the changing circumstances of their school environment.
  3. Community leadership
As leaders, they use the leadership skills they have acquired to empower communities and contribute to their own development.

Teach For Chad's vision for its fellows/teachers is therefore to develop committed young people, endowed with personal leadership, capable of transforming the lives of students and communities and, by extension, their country, by promoting inclusive, quality education.

Alumnis' vision

  1. Managing yourself
Teach For Chad alumni are self-reliant, resilient leaders. At the end of their fellowship, they continue to work for quality education thanks to the unique leadership experience gained in the field. They continue their personal development to better serve their communities.
  3. Managing the country
Teach For Chad alumni form a supportive network committed to positively influencing national education policies. They share a deep conviction that every child deserves a quality education that enables them to reach their full potential. Through their commitment, they are helping to build a better, more equitable future for Chad.

We have therefore defined the essential skills for recruiting and training these young graduates

Essential skills

We are looking for candidates who share our vision and mission. They must be passionate about education and motivated to create a positive impact in underserved communities.

  • Candidates must be open to continuous learning and constant improvement. They must be willing to adapt to challenges and evolve as education professionals. We need fellows who understand that learning is a lifelong practice and who are in search of knowledge.
  • Finally, we need scholars who have developed self-awareness and who regularly engage in introspection to challenge themselves in order to improve.
  • Cultural diversity is essential in our context. Candidates must be sensitive to cultural differences and respectful of local traditions. They must be able to communicate with respect for cultures and adapt their behavior accordingly.
  • Conscious and unconscious prejudices related to culture and religion significantly interfere with teachers' practice, social cohesion, and overall socioeconomic development. They must unlearn these prejudices in order to reinvent themselves.
  • Teaching in disadvantaged communities in our context requires critical thinking, negotiation and communication skills in order to solve complex problems. They must be able to analyze the causes of problems in all their complexity and dimensions before acting;
  • Most of the teachers who refused to go to these disadvantaged communities or who left were faced with problems and they did not have the skills to deal with them.
  •

Education is constantly evolving. Our teachers must have the courage and audacity to create and innovate to meet the needs of the moment. They must be responsive, flexible, and able to adapt to new teaching methods and changing circumstances in their environment. They must remain connected locally and globally, for themselves and for their students.

  •
  • Working in challenging environments requires strong solidarity. Candidates must be empathetic and willing to support themselves, students, and community members. They must collaborate with their colleagues, parents, and community members. This will enable them to fully engage in community initiatives for the benefit of the community and with the community.
  • Community members value this social value, which students must develop. It is very important for community support and problem-solving. The community is already supportive and wants this value to be passed on to the children.
  •

Education is a challenge, but also an opportunity for transformation. Our teachers must be able to manage the stress and emotions they will be subjected to. They will be criticized negatively by their colleagues, but they must persevere to achieve the goal they have set for themselves, together with the students and the community.
